When you cut down the last tree,

when you silence the birds,

when the oceans choke on your plastic—

That was your poetry ban.

Poetry is green.

It grows from soil.

It smells like rain.

It howls like wolves you made extinct.

You call it weak.

I call it warning.

And now you want to deport the poets?

Where—to the tundra you’re melting?

Good.

Maybe they’ll write the elegy.

We don’t need your permission to speak.

We write in wind.

We publish in fire.

We read it in the scars.

And you can’t ban the truth

just because it rhymes.
